Hey! Look at That!
Going Postal in SLO - Central Coast Philately
Stamp collecting has long been a stimulating hobby. Also known as "philately," the study of stamps combines current events, geography, history, art and design into a compact package. It is the world's most popular pastime. There is even a Boy Scout merit badge dedicated to the subject.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt was an enthusiastic collector. He was quoted on more than one occasion as saying, "I owe my life to my hobbies, especially stamp collecting." A portion of his vast collection can be seen on display at his home, a National Historic Site, in Hyde Park, New York.
Although far smaller than Roosevelt's collection, this is a sampling of stamps and first day covers from around the Central Coast and Central California.
